Lorentz invariant field theories describe matter at zero density, but many physical systems possess matter with finite density, ranging from ordinary metals to neutron stars. I will present our results on marginal Fermi liquid, which can be described by fermions at finite density coupled to a dynamical U(1) gauge field in 2 spatial dimensions. In particular, I will discuss the phenomenon of UV/IR mixing therein, which means that the IR physics can sensitively depend on the UV details. Compared to the previous literature that missed this effect, the UV/IR mixing strongly modifies the renormalization group flows and the scaling structures of the correlation functions in the system.
