Preventing ZoomBombing

Recommendations for preventing ZoomBombing

ZoomBombing is hijacking of Zoom meetings by unwanted guests who then disrupt meetings by sharing their desktop, typically showing images/videos of an offensive nature.

PACS recommends the following settings to minimize this happening.

Enable Host Only global setting for Who can share? in the UW Zoom web page BEFORE scheduling a meeting:

  • Sign in to UW Zoom https://washington.zoom.us/ with your UW NetID
  • Click on Settings the left side of the web page
  • Click on In Meeting (Basic)
  • Scroll down until Screen sharing
  • Select the bullet item Host Only
  • Click the Save button

When initially Scheduling A Meeting, you MUST set the following settings. [These must be SET at the time the meeting is created on the website and NOT after a meeting has been created.]

  1. Set Participant video to OFF
  2. Require Only authenticated users can join

The Host can enable Screen Sharing as needed during the meeting.
