Chirality meets Quantum

Dimitri Kharzeev, Stony Brook University & Brookhaven National Lab
Monday, April 22, 2024 - 4:00pm
PAA A-102

Chirality is a ubiquitous concept in science, from nuclear physics to biology. This talk will delve into the fascinating interplay between chirality and quantum physics, unveiling a number of novel phenomena. In particular, we will discuss a new kind of non-dissipative chiral transport (the ``chiral magnetic effect”), response of quantum vacuum to chirality (evaluated through digital quantum simulations), and a new effect arising for confined chiral quarks (“baryon-number - flavor separation”). Throughout the talk, the implications for ongoing and future experiments at RHIC, JLab, LHC and EIC, as well as on condensed matter experiments and astrophysical observations will be emphasized.
