QIS in Physics: Toward Quantum Simulations of Standard Model Physics

Martin Savage, UW Physics

PAT C-421

Simulating key static and dynamic properties of matter---from creation in the Big Bang to evolution into sub-atomic and astrophysical environments---emerging from underlying quantum field theories and their effective descriptions, lies beyond the capabilities of classical computation alone. I will tell you about recent progress that we have made toward performing quantum simulations of a few interesting systems of relevance to nuclear and particle physics.
