S@INT Seminar: "Degenerate fermionic matter at N3LO"

New advancements in neutron star observations have invigorated the need to understand the thermodynamic properties of cold and dense strongly interacting matter at unprecedented precision. The quantity that encodes bulk thermodynamic information is the pressure. At high densities, the only reliable first-principles method to describe such matter is perturbative quantum chromodynamics (pQCD). In pQCD, the pressure of cold and dense QCD has been determined partially up to O(g6) in the strong coupling constant.

In this talk, I will first focus on QED by presenting a new state-of-the-art result for the pressure of cold and dense QED matter to almost complete O(g6) [1,2]. While this calculation improves a 45-year-old milestone result, it also demonstrates the feasibility of generalising the setup to QCD.
