We have developed a high-resolution molecular sensor based on an ion current flowing through a protein nanopore. This sensor has enabled nanopore sequencing of DNA. Here, I will show how we have further adapted our technology to be a novel single-molecule tool called SPRNT (Single-molecule Picometer Resolution Nanopore Tweezers). SPRNT permits real-time observation of enzyme mechanics with spatio-temporal resolution far beyond that of optical tweezers. I will show why this research may matter to you.
