Evolutionary Approaches to Antibiotic Resistance

Michael Baym, Harvard Medical School
PAA 102

Antibiotic resistance is a major public health challenge, but is fundamentally a problem of evolution. This talk will address some efforts to study resistance evolution in the laboratory, using the MEGA-plate system and more classical directed evolution. These results show the need for both point-of-care diagnostics and likely algorithmically-driven explorations of drug combinations.
