The Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) is a new wide-area, high cadence time domain survey that will be commissioned later this year. ZTF is optimized for discovery of rare and fast-evolving transients and variables. I will summarize ZTF's status and development to date. UW is a partner in the ZTF Collaboration; I will highlight scientific opportunities in the study of exotic explosions, cosmology, variable stars, and asteroids. ZTF’s realtime data stream will provide a pathfinder for that expected from LSST.
