A bright future for Introductory Physics Courses

The physics community can be proud of the role it has played in improving undergraduate education. Reforming recitations sections with group activities and transforming lectures with Peer Instruction and Flipped Classrooms have helped and become the norm in many disciplines. I will share two new developments that may further improve the experience of students taking introductory physics. The first is a successful implementation of Keller's Personalized Learning Plan for helping students develop basic physics proficiency. The second is the IOLab, an inexpensive cart with 11 built-in sensors that allow students to perform experiments outside the time and space constraints of the traditional lab.​
