Student Machine Shop InstructionSpring Quarter 2026
For those interested in receiving machine shop instruction, class will begin starting April 7th, 2026. The shop class is required for use of the physics student shop.
Spring Quarter registration opens March 2nd, 2026
There is a fee of $300 for the training class. This can be paid by budget number or by check. Students working with a research group may talk to their supervisor about paying the fee on a grant budget number.
The class will start meeting Tuesday, April 7th at 1:30 p.m.Classes we be held twice a week, Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. for a lecture demonstration and Thursdays at either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. for a practicum.
Your practicum schedule will be determined after the first day of class. The length of each class is between 1.5 and 2.0 hours. We meet for class a total of 7 weeks. Every week you will attend one lecture demonstration on Tuesdays and one practicum on Thursdays. Those interested, sign up, pay and attend at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7th in the physics student shop room B072.
An option for physics students or staff, after completing the class and accumulating 20 hours of incident-free use during normal shop hours (M-F 7:00am – 3:30pm) a $15.00 deposit for a key will gain access to the shop after hours. April 12th, 2026 is the last day to drop the student machine shop course without being assessed a $20 Fee
