Postdoctoral Scholar – Particle Physics, String Theory and Cosmology

The Particle Physics, String Theory and Cosmology Group at the University of Washington invites applications for one or more Postdoctoral Scholar positions starting in September 2021.

The positions will be for three years, subject to funding and mutual agreement. The Postdoctoral Scholar title is limited to five years post PhD, including postdoctoral experience(s) at UW and other institutions.

Faculty members in the group will be Masha Baryakhtar (mbaryakhtar@nyu.edu), Marilena Loverde (marilena.loverde@stonybrook.edu) Natalie Paquette (paquette@ias.edu), Steve Sharpe (srsharpe@uw.edu), and Laurence Yaffe (lgy@uw.edu). We have strong ties to the nuclear theory group and Institute for Nuclear Theory, and to the Astronomy and Math departments, as well as to experimental groups in astrophysics, particle physics, and precision measurement.

Applicants will be considered in all areas of high energy physics, including cosmology, lattice field theory, mathematical physics, theoretical particle physics, quantum field theory and string theory. Review of applications will begin on or after November 1.

Postdoctoral Scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in particle physics, or a related field, by the date of appointment.

Applications should be submitted at apply.interfolio.com/78424   and consist of a cover letter, a CV with list of publications, a summary of research interests, and three letters of recommendation. The group values contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM fields, and to outreach; these can be described in the cover letter.

General inquiries should be sent to Steve Sharpe. Positions will remain open until filled.
