Thouless Institute for Quantum Matter
Mission
The Thouless Institute for Quantum Matter aims to create opportunities and catalyze partnerships that accelerate progress in quantum matter research and educate future generations of scientists. Building on a strong tradition of close collaboration both within and between theory and experiment, we welcome and support researchers at all career stages and from all backgrounds through activities that include visitor and exchange programs, workshops, schools, seminars, and fellowships.
What is Quantum Matter?
Quantum matter includes solids, liquids, and collections of trapped atoms or ions which manifest properties that are fundamentally quantum mechanical and of a many-body nature. These properties are not only diverse and fascinating but also might be harnessed for transformative future technologies.
location and sponsorship
The TIQM serves as a hub for quantum matter research in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Our center of mass is in the Department of Physics on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington. The TIQM is supported by the University of Washington.
