The 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics:  A Scientific Summary

John Wettlaufer, Yale University & Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics

As Sir Charles Frank said "Physics is not just Concerning the Nature of Things, But Concerning the Interconnectedness of all the Natures of Things”, which encapsulates an overarching theme of this year’s Prize. I provide a scientific overview of the 2021 prize, colored partly by my role as a member of the committee.  In particular, I highlight a number of the key tendrils of the research recognized this year that are solidly rooted in the University of Washington, where I enjoyed my early career.

Recording will be made available after the Nobel ceremony on  December 11.
